SCHOLARSHIPS

 

SISTER LUELLA DAMES, CPPS CONVENTION SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in June 2015 by the Duchesne Branch of the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians to honor Sister Luella Dames, CPPS, founding director of the Duchesne Branch.

In honor of Sr. Luella's commitment to the association, the Chapter will present an annual award of $500 to assist an active pastoral musician, who has never attended an NPM convention, to attend the annual convention of the association.

The award is intended to encourage pastoral musicians to improve their knowledge and skills in music ministry.

Eligibility of Fund Applicants:

Member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians and the Saint Louis Chapter

Actively involved in music ministry

Has never attended a national NPM Convention

 How may the award funds be used?

 The $500 award may be used toward registration/travel/lodging/meals for the national convention.

 How to Apply:

2.  Complete the application.

3.  Obtain a brief letter of recommendation from your Pastor or Music Director.

4.  Email to stlouismo@npm.org by February 15th.

The deadline for applications is February 15th each year.  The winner will receive the award and check upon proof of registration for the convention.

DR. MARIE KREMER ORGAN STUDY SCHOLARSHIP

Overview

In the Fall of 2008, the St. Louis Chapter Executive Committee established a fund to honor Dr. Marie Kremer, a founding member of the St. Louis Chapter.

In honor of Marie’s lifelong commitment to the teaching of young organists, the St. Louis Chapter will present an award to assist a present or aspiring Pastoral Musician with the cost of organ study.

The award is intended to encourage the next generation of pastoral musicians to follow the call to minister as organists in the Church.  Applications are solicited as funds are available.

Eligibility of Fund Applicants:

Member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians and the Saint Louis Chapter

Currently engaged in formal organ lessons.

How may the award funds be used?

Recipients of the award will receive $250 toward organ studies inclusive of a short-term intensive study week that includes private lessons.

REV. VIRGIL C. FUNK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

This scholarship was established by the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians in the fall of 2000.  It is dedicated to the work and vision of Rev. Virgil C. Funk, Founder and President of NPM, who retired in 2001, after twenty-five years of tireless service to the association.

 

Purpose:  To assist pastoral musicians with the cost of education/formation

Amount:   The Chapter will periodically award one $ 2,000 scholarship at the June General Membership Meeting if a qualified applicant has submitted all required items, and sufficient funds are available.

Sponsored by:  St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians

Applications due by:  May 1st, current year, for use in the following academic year

Eligibility Requirements:  

  1. Applicant must be a member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians and a member of the St. Louis Chapter. 

  2. Applicant must be enrolled or be preparing to enroll in a full or part-time undergraduate or graduate level program or a continuing education program.

  3. The program of study must be related to the field of pastoral music.

How to Apply:

 1.      Write a letter of application containing the following information:

a.      Name, address, home telephone, work phone, e-mail address

b.      Your definition of the term “pastoral musician”

c.       Description of your talents

d.      Your previous experience as a pastoral musician

e.      Your educational background

f.        Educational program you intend to pursue or where you are currently enrolled:

i.      Type of degree or continuing education program

ii.      Name of college/university or sponsoring organization

iii.      Major and minor fields of study

iv.      Full or part-time

2.      Obtain two letters of recommendation, including one from your pastor (if applicable).

3.      Email the above information to the Chapter Director at stlouismo@npm.org before May 1 of the current year.

4.      Obtain a five-minute performance recording (digital or analog) of you or your choir/ensemble.  Scholarship committee may request a copy of this recording after review of your application.

5.      All applicants will be notified of the results before the June General Membership Meeting.  The award will be presented to the successful applicant at the June Membership Meeting.
